Popped bubbles: 1
Furman (1-4), Southern Conference
No games of significance remain on Furman's schedule. Without a couple of marquee wins to point to on their resume, a five loss Furman will not be given an at-large.
Four results worth mentioning:
Rutgers 69, Clemson 64
I don't have high expectations for either one of these schools, however Rutgers can now add a true road win over an ACC school to their resume, which already includes a win over Vanderbilt. It's too soon to completely write Rutgers off. Clemson, it's probably not too soon.
Nebraska 70, Florida State 65
Another yawner in the ACC/Big Ten challenge, once again saw a Big Ten road team knock off an ACC host. I can't begin to express how stupid I find the "challenges," so I won't. I'll just warn you not to read too much into it. If the Big Ten wins by a game, it doesn't mean they're the better conference (they might be, but not because of the challenge). It just means a couple of crummy match-ups went their way.
Eastern Michigan 83, Marygrove 52
EMU boasts the least impressive 7-0 record in the country. That's not to say former Jim Boeheim assistant Rob Murphy doesn't have a good team in Ypsi, it's just to say they haven't played anyone. Their RPI will suffer as a result, and should they win the MAC (I think they will), their seeding will be lower than the Mid-American champ is accustomed to.
South Carolina 77, Marshall 59
This win is not impressive. However it's the kind of game crummy to mid-level SEC schools have typically lost over the last few years. So good for South Carolina. There's no shame in beating a low end C-USA squad, but there's plenty in losing to one.
